(2 customer reviews)

Frock Coat of thick cotton canvas twill with military style braided gimp trim and long, wide bell sleeves.  Justacorps pleating in the bottom half gives just the right amount of flair with 2 hidden box pleats in the corners and a split in the back to allow for a sword scabbard to escape without lifting the back.  Fully lined.  Beautiful metal buttons, flap pockets. Sleeve is long to come past the wrist onto the hand to allow for either a ruffled or button cuff shirt.  Black with golden trim, aged brown with black trim and new this year, wine with gold trim, and wine with black trim.  Fabric matches the 1720 Vest.

John Ansell sailed with Captain Morgan.

5 out of 5 An excellent frock for the high seas

Many of the frock coats that you’ll see are long and flowy, great if you are a courtier or riding horseback, but would be down right cumbersome if you were an active crew member of a vessel. A shorter cut would be fantastic, and the Ansell Frock coat provides exactly that.

I purchased mine to go with the 1720 vest, and the material and lining is of the same type. Since I have the brown vest and brown jacket, the buttons match both, which makes for a unified look. I love that the planning for these outfits took that into account. Next, the material is a solid duck canvas, and feels durable. The stitching is solid and the lining is well done. The stitching for the decorative braid is clean and even, and the cut of the jacket works just right. Sizing is accurate, or at least it proved to be accurate for me.

Drss Like a Pirate turns orders quick. I was resigned to the thought I wouldn’t see the jacket for a few days, but I held out a hope that it might arrive in time for an event I was attending that weekend (Nor-Cal Renaissance Faire was holding a Pirate Weekend, and I really wanted a full look. The jacket arrived Friday afternoon, which meant that had to have turned the order within a couple of hours of my placing it. If you’ve ever deal with retail shipping, especially with a “small shop”, seriously, that’s impressive.

Again, if you’ve thought a full justacorps was a bit too much for a pirate outfit, or don’t particularly want to re-enact as a full blown captain, but want something that looks clean, purposeful and, dare I say it, elegant, this is the coat for you :).
